Leeds facing sanctions for denying TV access for match

Leeds are set to receive £100,000 for allowing Sky to screen tonight’s game on top of their share of the League’s broadcast deal but could have been fined hundreds of thousands had they gone through with Cellino’s black-out.

Leeds have been shown live on Sky Sports nine times already this season and had their Boxing Day fixture at Nottingham Forest moved to Sunday 27 December to cater for TV audiences.

“The Football League regulations are supposed to be there to protect the integrity of the sporting competition, not to be used as a stick to beat the club on behalf of Sky”, it read.

The League’s rules state that broadcasters should be granted access to stadia, although as of Tuesday morning, no access had been gained by Sky.

Recent good results have been achieved despite the alterations to the fixture list, but at great cost to the players’ fitness and a substantial injury list.
