The “jot” or the alliance with the Congress, described by its enthusiastic authors as “historic” and necessary to beat Mamata Banerjee before the elections, is being questioned by the CPM now.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Thursday clearly headed to retain power in the southern state of Tamil Nadu by winning 21 seats and leading in 110 other constituencies as arch rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) gave a strong fight, bagging 19 and leading in 71 segments.

An analysis of the results indicated that the party’s vote percentage also increased compared to 2011 Assembly poll and 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The TMC won 211 seats, literally demolishing an unmatched Left-Congress alliance which managed to win 76 seats.

Yechury observed the BJP could open its account in Kerala due to vote transfer between the saffron party and Congress.

Reacting to the TMC’s decisive victory, Banerjee thanked the people of the state and promised to take forward the march of poriborton (change) that she and her party had initiated in 2011.

“The central committee of the party never made a decision to form a seat adjustment with the Congress, it is the state leaders of the party who did the seat adjustments to defeat the Trinamool Congress”, Dhar added.

With the alliance failing to meet its objective, the next few days are likely to witness a witch hunt at Alimuddin Street and the target of the attack would most likely be former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and CPM state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra.

Mamata who congratulated the people of the state for giving her a decisive mandate appealed to the people for maintaining peace and harmony in the state.

Reddy refused to buy Modi’s claim that the poll outcome in Assam, where the BJP put on an impressive show to clinch power for the first time, reflected acceptance of the saffron party’s ideology and politics by people.

CPI(M) lawmaker Md Salim told NDTV, “Our workers worked wholeheartedly for the alliance and the Congress benefited. We have no inhibition in admitting that even the BJP too has not been able to make that place so far in Bengal”, said Ghosh who emerged victorious from Kharagpur Sadar.

Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee was on Friday unanimously elected as the leader of the Trinamool Congress legislature party at its meeting. “To understand the reason, we need to do a deep assessment of the results”. The Congress won the Murshidabad seat by a margin of 25,000 margin and the Lalgola constituency by 54,000 votes.
