Leganes 0 Atletico Madrid 0: Returning Griezmann fails to inspire turgid visitors

Arsenal failed to persuade Antoine Griezmann to sign for the club this summer – after reportedly meeting with the player to discuss an £80million move from Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann, who made his first appearance of the season, said Atletico needed improvement quickly.

Diego Simeone’s men were held for a second straight league game on Saturday, drawing 0-0 at newly promoted Leganes.

Now, we have to be calm and continue working.

According to the daily’s report, Griezmann met with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger at Euro 2016 and told him that he did not want to move to England because his family is enjoying life in Spain.

The 25-year-old forward said he still had work to do to get back to his best.

The goalless draw against Leganes was just a week on from their 1-1 stalemate at home to fellow newcomers Alaves, but Simeone is remaining positive.

“I believe that we are creating scoring situations and they are not created against us, so we only need to finish these chances”.

Atletico continued to probe and Griezmann sliced a good opening wildly wide off his less-favoured right foot with 15 minutes to go, before substitute Yannick Carrasco saw his 82nd-minute effort well-blocked by Serantes at his near post. Find us on Facebook too!
