Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez named Premier League’s player of the year

The sought-after Algerian, who joined the club in 2014 from Le Havre, has scored 17 goals and provided 11 assists for Claudio Ranieri’s table-topping team.

Leicester have notoriously made pre-season title odds of 5,000-1 look foolish as they have swept all before them to lead the league heading into the closing stages of the campaign. We are like brothers, it’s everywhere on the pitch.

“I’m very grateful to receive this award. We are a complete team and we will fight for each other all the way”.

Mahrez’s goals have been worth a phenomenal 20 points to Leicester this season, with the vast majority of the 25-year-old’s strikes coming at key times in matches.

The team, which is owned by Thai duty free retail giant King Power, will be guaranteed the Premier League trophy by winning two of its remaining three games.

Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld has arguably become the division’s stand-out centre-back under manager Mauricio Pochettino and lines up alongside Leicester skipper Wes Morgan at the heart of the back four.

He was not there to pick up his award in person as Tottenham play West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Monday night.

The centre of the park is again split by the title challengers, with Spurs youngster Alli making the team in his first season in the top flight alongside Kante.

Leicester City playmaker Riyad Mahrez has been voted as the PFA Player of the Year for 2015-16. He was unable to attend the ceremony because he was preparing with his teammates to face West Brom. Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs won the PFA merit award. Thank you for to everyone who voted for me.

“It’s like a fairground ride and we are just enjoying ourselves and we will keep enjoying ourselves for the last few games”, Vardy said of the Foxes title hopes after their 4-0 win over Swansea City earlier in the day.
