Leicester qualify for Champions League group stage after Manchester City draw

Leicester are still clear favourites for the title, leading the Premier league with 73 points from 34 games – eight more than second-placed Tottenham Hotspur who have 65 points and play their game in hand at Stoke City on Monday.

In a game filled with drama, Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy went from hero to zero.

Leicester’s Danny Simpson also saw it as one point gained rather than two dropped.

What’s more surprising is that the title race isn’t more open, given the collapse of defending champion Chelsea and Manchester rivals City and United struggling for consistency throughout the season.

I can’t wait to hear what Sir Alex Ferguson will have to say on this matter, when a reporter inevitably asks him his thoughts on the potential knighting of Claudio Ranieri. “I want my players to be happy”.

The bookies aren’t going to be caught out next season like a lot of them were past year when some punters went for Leicester to win the league at 5,000/1.

Indian restaurant owner Abdul Giash will offer madras, masala, jalfrezi or bhuna specials to the first 1,000 season ticket holders who rush down to the Spice Bazzar if Wes Morgan lifts the Premier League trophy.

In an interview with France Football published this week, Ranieri acknowledged that Leicester are still in with a chance of winning the league only because other teams have underperformed.

If Manchester City win the Champions League and Liverpool win the Europa League, the fourth-place side will have to drop out, provided Manchester City and Liverpool do not finish in the top four.

“I shall be doing all I can to persuade the Palace to reward him”.

Now though, they’re being backed to advance from their Champions League group and maybe go even further again.
