DENVER (AP) – The Washington Nationals are having trouble with Colorado Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu.
WASHINGTON: The Nationals have won four of their last five games overall and are a flawless 4-0 in their last four games on the road.
On the bright side, Stephen Strasburg still leads the National League with 15 wins.
“Yeah. Why not?” manager Walt Weiss said. “I was looking at the bigger picture”.
Werth hit a two-run homer in the third inning off Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa and reached safely three times to extend his on-base streak to a career-best 43 games. That was the most runs the Nats have allowed in a single inning this season. After Wolters singled to center, manager Dusty Baker decided he’d seen enough and pulled his embattled starter. “He’s throwing the ball well”. “He was at (111) pitches in (3⅓ innings) and he really had to work hard”.
Every Rockies pitcher allowed at least one run, except Boone Logan (2-2). Bryce Harper drove in a run on a groundout and Wilson Ramos added an RBI single off the right-field wall. Chris Heisey then hit a solo homer with two outs in the ninth.
4 – The Rockies ended a four-game losing skid.
“You’d like for it to be a little easier than that after the seven-run first”.
“We’ve said this is probably our biggest area of need”, Coppolella said. I want to keep it in perspective. Our closer’s down. One of our best players is down. We’ve been trying to find it. “It’s not how we drew it up, but it’s a great win”. Petit went three innings, gave up one run on three hits, and struck out two in the loss. He also walked in the seventh after going 4 for 4 on Monday and walking in his final plate appearance Sunday.
DENVER, CO – AUGUST 17: Starting pitcher Jon Gray #55 of the Colorado Rockies delivers to home plate during the second inning against the Washington Nationals at Coors Field on August 17, 2016 in Denver, Colorado. Before Tuesday, Strasburg hadn’t allowed more than six runs in any game this season.

During the rally, LeMahieu singled, giving him eight straight hits, one short of the Rockies record set by Andres Galarraga in 1993. That puts him in sole possession of second place in Nats/Expos franchise history. “I think they had some injuries and had a need open. They just weren’t today”. Hoffman would be making his major league debut. Nationals LHP Sammy Solis (left shoulder inflammation) was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Tuesday and has been sent back to Washington to undergo an MRI. Nationals RHP Koda Glover was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to begin his second major league stint. LeMahieu ended the inning by taking a called third strike, ending his streak of reaching base in 10 consecutive plate appearances, which is tied for fourth all-time in Rockies history. The seven runs in the bottom of the first are the most the Rockies have scored since they erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the first on September 17, 2014, against the Dodgers. Each team scored twice in the second.
