Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke front unretouched lingerie advert about inspirational women

Of course, Dunham is no stranger to promoting body positive messages. The creator of the brand, Helene Morris, began the Lonely Girls Project is an ongoing project featuring inspiring women wearing Lonely brand garments in their own unique way.

As part of the New Zealand-based brand’s body-positive series “Lonely Girls Project” (‘an ongoing journal series featuring candid portraits of inspiring women in their own spaces wearing Lonely, their way, ‘) the actresses – now filming the sixth and final season of Girls – are pictured posing and putting makeup on each other in a Brooklyn apartment.

Which is no doubt why the New Zealand brand identified Lena and Jemima as women they’d like to work with. Captured by Zara Mirkin and Harry Were, the photos were taken in Dunham’s native NY and show the pair in a relaxed home environment doing what they do best; be real women.

Dunham, who has never been shy about showing her body, has been a fan of the underwear for over a year, and posted this steamy selfie on May 25, 2015.

In another image, the pair wear black lingerie while Kirke puts red lipstick on Dunham.

“The “#lonelygirlsproject” Instagram campaign, which sees the brand photograph real women wearing the lingerie sets at home, soon followed.

Her comments followed a row with the Spanish magazine during which Dunham accused the publication of retouching an image of her. This feeling transcends the stereotyping you see pushed upon women everyday all over the world.
