Lenovo Moto Z render hints at 5.2 mm slick unibody design

Earlier this year at CES 2016, Lenovo officially announced their partnership with Google to bring Project Tango to a consumer ready device. Prior to its official launch, well-known tipster Evan Blass – who goes by the Twitter handle @evleaks and is on the money when it comes to leaks – has spilled the beans on the mysterious Project Tango smartphone from Lenovo.

Lenovo is expected to make multiple announcements during the Tech World event, scheduled on Thursday, in San Francisco.

For the uninitiated, Project Tango deploys a wide variety of cameras and sensors, which enables users to map their position/3D space in real time. The two are set to keep their promise and Lenovo is poised to debut the first-ever Project Tango smartphone, dubbed the the Lenovo PHAB2 Pro, in a couple of days. A few days ago, word broke out that the new launch from this project will be Lenovo PHAB2 Pro. Recently, images of the MotoMods were released. The company recently applied for Moto Z trademark in the USA and is expected to launch the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play smartphones at the event.

Google has already developed two devices to demonstrate the Project Tango technology, the Peanut phone and the Yellowstone 7-inch tablet.

The smartphone is pegged to come in two variants – Moto Z and Moto Z Play. Lenovo has promised a sub-$500 (sub-£350 in the UK) price tag, a Summer 2016 release date and will be powered by a Snapdragon processor, however we’re not quite sure which one. The MotoMods are supposed to be Lenvo’s take on the modularity of the smartphone. Lenovo is expected to launch a dedicated mobile virtual reality product in the second half of this year, but they may also be launching more than one piece of hardware which is powered by the Movidius chip, confirmed by Movidius to be a chip called the Myriad 2 Vision Processing Unit. We’ll be at Lenovo’s Tech World event later this week so stay tuned for more coverage on the PHAB2 Pro and more! Lenovo says that the 2016 Tech World will be bigger, better and bolder.
