Lenovo unveils modular Moto Z and Moto Z Force smartphones

The implication is that the Moto Z, which for the first time combines Motorola’s and new owner Lenovo’s spirits, will have a similar effect in the market.

The Moto Z Droid Edition and Moto Z Force Droid Edition work with the Moto Mod system, yet offer distinct design features that can be tailored for your lifestyle.

The Moto Z Play, as the lower-tier device, might come along with a newer generation mid-range chipset, like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. The pitch is the same as for every modular phone: everyone needs something unique, and you should be able to have the phone you want. The Motorola Moto Z is a great device with top of the line specifications but the MotoMod makes it stand out of the crowd. The Moto Z is 5.19mm in thickness. The main difference would be that the Moto Z has a battery that will last up to 30 hours, while the Moto Z Force will pack a larger battery that will give up to 40 hours.

Motorola’s new device is the world’s thinnest premium smartphone – just 5.2mm – and ultra-light.

Alongside the PHAB2 Pro, today at their event, Lenovo showed off the latest devices in the Moto family, the Moto Z and Moto Z Force.

A 13MP rear camera features optical image stabilization and laser autofocus, while a 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens takes care of selfie and videoconferencing duties.

Both devices, announced by Ashton Kutcher and Motorola’s SVP of software engineering Seang Chay on stage, are the first to have Motorola’s “mods”.

From multiple leaked images and renders most of us have a pretty good idea of how the Lenovo Moto Z that replaces the Moto X is going to be in terms of design.

For those more interested in the DROID series of phones, don’t fret, Moto and Verizon did not forget about you. A reliable 4G LTE network ensures that the music and movies streaming to your Moto Mod speaker and projector will be lag and buffer-free, and that you can easily share your stunning photos on Instagram or Flickr. True to the Force name, the Moto Z Force has a shatter shield screen which Lenovo claims is unbreakable. You can expect to see both Moto Z variants to launch this summer exclusively through US carrier Verizon under the moniker Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid. Techno Buffalo also cited a previous rumor that the device may come with a 13-megapixel sensor camera.

The Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group is also offering an equity funding of $1 million for any individual or company that comes up with the best Moto Mod prototype by March 31, 2017. Motorola has stated that the handset will be available unlocked in the US sometime in fall.
