“Shut up, you disgusting, pill-popping deviant scum!” he said by way of greeting the champagne-guzzling crowd at the event organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Keeping our panties out of a bunch, we laughed along as he slammed Caitlyn Jenner, Jeffery Tambor’s balls, the Catholic church, pay equality, the phallic Golden Globe statue itself, Sean Penn, Ben Affleck, and the hilarious movie The Martian.
Neither “Boyhood” (drama) nor “The Grand Budapest Hotel” (comedy) won Oscars a year ago, even though they did win Golden Globes. She also beat out her friend Amy Schumer in the category. Tom Hanks (“Forrest Gump”) presented Denzel Washington (“Training Day”) with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, honoring his extraordinary contributions to the entertainment world. Di Caprio’s former “Titanic” co-star Kate Winslet received the Best Supporting Actress award for “Steve Jobs”.
And the most awaited award – the Best Actor is expected to go in hands of Leonardo DiCaprio for his film “The Revenant”.
The Danny Boyle-directed movie, which did not do well at the box office, earned another trophy for Aaron Sorkin in the best screenplay category.
Amazon’s musical show “Mozart in the Jungle” was the surprise victor of best TV comedy series and “My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” newcomer Rachel Bloom took home the award for best comedy TV actress over favorite Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Appropriately enough, Taraji P. Henson passed out cookies while coming to the stage to accept her best actress award in a drama. Lady Gaga left with her first Globe for her recent work in “American Horror Story: Hotel”. Followed by wins of countless other actors, movie and crew, such as Sylvester Stallone (“Rocky“) and Pixar’s “Inside Out”, the Globes were an exciting beginning to 2016’s award show season. Some say that the winning of a Golden Globe can be a precursor to ending up on the receiving end of an Oscar. Voting for Oscar nominations closed on Friday, but the campaigning won’t end until the actual ceremony on February 28.
