Leonardo DiCaprio reflects on his Oscar chances
After seemingly slipping in an unpredictable awards season, “Spotlight” rebounded Thursday, landing six nominations including best director for McCarthy, best screenplay for McCarthy and Josh Singer, best supporting actress for Rachel McAdams and best supporting actor for Mark Ruffalo.

Mr. DiCaprio, picking up his fifth acting nomination, will be competing against the reigning best actor victor, Eddie Redmayne, who picked up a nod for “The Danish Girl”.
In an interview with Women’s Weekly, director George Miller expressed his excitement after his movie received 10 nominations, this year’s second most nominated movie. Those include the top Golden Globe winners – Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” and Alejandro Inarritu’s “The Revenant” – along with “Spotlight”, “The Big Short” and “Room”.
It will contend with “The Big Short”, “Bridge of Spies”, “Brooklyn”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Martian”, “Room” and “Spotlight” for best picture. In addition to Cate Blanchett, she’s up against Brie Larson, Charlotte Rampling and Saoirse Ronan.
– Steven Spielberg, whose “Bridge of Spies” was nominated for best picture on Thursday, has set the record for the most best picture nominations for an individual producer with nine.
It is now under fire again for a lack of diversity for the 88th Academy Awards, with all white nominees in the acting categories and male nominees for best director.
For films still in theaters, like The Revenant, the nominations are an opportunity to expand to more locations and pull in more fans in the weeks leading up to the late February Oscars telecast.
With just over a month to go until Hollywood’s biggest awards night, you might expect Best Actor nominee Leonardo DiCaprio to be feeling jittery. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is nominated for Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and that classic John Williams score.
The other animated feature nominees are Anomalisa, Boy and the World, Shaun the Sheep Movie, and When Marnie Was There.

The Oscars were never far from the lips of the cast, especially whether it could be sixth time lucky for DiCaprio who picked up the best actor award at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
