Leonardo DiCaprio, Ricky Gervais Star At Golden Globes

Revenge drama “The Revenant” and space adventure “The Martian” took the top film awards at Sunday’s Golden Globes, setting them up as formidable Oscar contenders after a night of surprises and stinging barbs from return host Ricky Gervais.

Rising star Brie Larson won best actress in a drama for her role in “Room”.

It proved to be a particularly exciting evening for the Titanic actor, who picked up the award for best actor following his stunning performance in The Revenant.

This year’s Golden Globe was dominated by two major films starring two major Hollywood A-listers.

The 54-year-old comedian took charge of proceedings at the awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday (01.10.16) and proved that no one was safe from him yet again.

And “The Big Short”, based on a book about the financial crisis of 2007-2008, was also snubbed, going zero for four.

“The Son of Saul”, a Hungarian about the Holocaust, won for Best Foreign Language film. Boyhood won it a year ago, but in a flawless tit for tat, was snubbed at the Oscars in favour of Inarritu’s Birdman.

The Golden Globes is considered a preview of the Academy Awards, Hollywood’s biggest night. It is time that we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people that are out there to exploit them.

Critics believe that Di Caprio might win his very first Oscar with “The Revenant”. There are so many things that come into play when you make a movie.

In the supporting actor category, Globe victor Sylvester Stallone is expected to ride a wave of popular support for “Creed”, in which he reprised his iconic role of boxer Rocky Balboa, straight to an Oscars nod.

Under the Drama category, Jon Hamm from “Mad Men” was the Best Actor, while Taraji P. Henson from “Empire” was the Best Actress.

And yet, buoyed by more respectable picks in recent years and a three-year hosting stint by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the boozy Globes have been on the rise, even if their choices wont directly affect who will get that coveted Oscar nomination.

Denzel Washington was awarded the Cecil B Demille Award, the Globes’ lifetime-achievement prize.

It was the.gif seen around the world – or at least all over the Internet – when Lady Gaga won the award for best actress in a miniseries for her part in American Horror Story: Hotel.

“Mr. Robot” won the globe for best television drama series, while “Mozart in the Jungle” won best musical or comedy series.
