Leonardo DiCaprio was a clear favourite in a five-man race which included Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Matt Damon (The Martian), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) and last year’s best actor victor Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl). “I really respect and actually admire some of the people who are not here tonight, I really get it, but for me, I felt like my voice – in my heart – my voice is best used at the table”. Of course, DiCaprio’s message during his acceptance speech around global warming also played a big part: “Climate change is real, it is happening right now”, he said. Beyond DiCaprio’s win, the most buzzed about moments measured by tweets and according to Twitter were Spotlight’s Best Picture win and Mad Max: Fury Road scooping its 6th Oscar of the night, for Sound Mixing.
