Leonardo DiCaprio wins Golden Globe for dramatic actor
“The Martian” was another big victor on the film side, taking Best Comedy/Musical Picture despite a strong challenge from “The Big Short”, and, as expected, Best Comedy/Musical Actor for Matt Damon, who had never won an acting prize at the Globes before; he previously won in 1997 for his screenplay for “Good Will Hunting”. “I don’t know how he does it”, Gervais said.

Awards season is a survival exercise, so maybe it makes sense that The Revenant won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama on Sunday.
Series co-star Christian Slater was also named TV’s best supporting actor. “I’m going to do this monologue and then go into hiding”, he said.
Actress, Movie or Limited Series: Lady Gaga, “American Horror Story: Hotel”.
Gervais hosted the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, and he kicked things off by noting that the Hollywood Foreign Press gave him a stern warning against making crass jokes.
The film took home the award for best film (drama) – and delivered best actor (drama), and best director hardware for Leonardo DiCaprio, and Alejandro González Iñárritu respectively.
In typical Gervais comedy-style, he told his audience he used one of his own Golden Globes as a doorstop, one to beat burglars and one was by his bedside.
First in his sights was the Globes broadcaster NBC, “the only network with zero nominations”.
Ricky Gervais returned to host the show for the fourth time, and his tone throughout was one of barely-concealed disgust.
Sylvester Stallone was a sentimental favorite for his win as Rocky Balboa in “Creed”.
Winslet aside, there were British wins for Wolf Hall, which took the prize for best miniseries, and for Sam Smith, whose Bond theme “Writing’s on the Wall” was named Best Original Song.
American drama-thriller series Mr Robot has won the Golden Globe for best drama series.
It nearly felt like a lifetime achievement award, because elsewhere the Globe voters were attracted to whatever was shiny and new.
Leonardo DiCaprio won the Golden Globe award for best dramatic actor in The Revenant. The Globes have instead grown into one of the most popular award show broadcasts of the year, thanks to increasingly credible nominees, its trademark relaxed atmosphere and its unique position as a major awards show that honors both film and television.
He directed his acerbic tongue towards Sean Penn, Jeffrey Tambor, Matt Damon, Jennifer Lawrence and Caitlyn Jenner. Best Foreign Language Film was also awarded to our forecast frontrunner, “Son of Saul”.
There were some bright moments-like Jamie Foxx rolling his eyes at Quentin Tarantino’s rambling speech for The Hateful Eight’s original score, or Eva Longoria and America Ferrera acidly referring to each other as “Salma” and “Charo” as they introduced an award.
Inarritu won best director for the second year in a row after last year’s “Birdman”. Taraji P. Henson, who plays Cookie on Fox’s “Empire“, won for best dramatic actress for “Empire“.

The Martian picked up two Golden Globes in the “comedy” category – though even director Ridley Scott appeared to question whether it could really be classed as such, when he picked up the award for best comedy film.
