The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards took place Sunday, and while plenty of Oscar-nominated actors and films won Golden Globes, many predicted Oscar winners went home with nothing.

This year’s Golden Globes saw The Revenant lift the night’s most coveted prize, while its lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio had Twitter buzzing and host Ricky Gervais’s sour wit raised eyebrows. The historical drama took home the Best Picture and Best Director awards at the star-studded ceremony, while Leonardo Dicaprio was named Best Actor.
What if a network aired an awards show and you couldn’t hear half of it? Appreciating the success of “The Martian”, Damon said, “I’ve made a lot of movies that people just didn’t go see”.
The five films are the only Globe best picture nominees in either category to also appear on the Producers Guild of America’s list of 10 best picture nominees announced this past week. Jennifer Lawrence won best actress in a musical or comedy at the Golden Globes, a role that’s also earning her some Oscar buzz.
Picking up two Globes should also help the 20th Century Fox-distributed sci-fi hit “The Martian”, which won for motion picture comedy and an acting honor for Matt Damon.
The actor, who’s known for making digs at the star-studded audience, first greeted the crowd with “Shut up, you disgusting, pill-popping deviant scum!” And that nomination was for “Rocky”. ‘I am gonna try not to get emotional because I am the sum total of every person I ever met. Last time I was here was 1977’.
They may have been up against each other in the same category for Best Actress in a comedy but there was no hint of competition between them (and they shared a warm hug when Lawrence won for Joy).

A glass of beer in his right hand, Gervais said he “found himself in the awkward position” of having to introduce the venerable actor who he had been the butt of his jokes a few years prior, following Gibson’s notorious arrest.
