Leopard enters couple’s hotel room

A terrified honeymooning couple woke up to find a leopard in their hotel room in India. The animal reportedly entered a room occupied by a couple in the hotel in the Tallital area at around 4.30am.

The PTI agency said Sumit Rathore and his wife Shivani were asleep when the leopard broke a window and climbed into the room early on Sunday.

Rathore immediately closed the bathroom door, and caught the leopard inside, reported The Times of India.

The hotel’s owner Amit Sah called the police and forest officials who sent the rescue team but before they could catch hold of the leopard, it escaped out of the bathroom window.

“This was a young leopard which came to the hotel after being chased by dogs”. Tejasvini Arvind Patil, divisional forest officer, Nainital, said that the leopard seemed to have drifted into the town searching for food at the garbage mound near Hanumangarhi.

After a 2-hour showdown the officials were unable to capture the one-and-half-year-old leopard, which reportedly escaped out of the washroom vent. He also noted that this was not the first time a wild animal has ventured into the hotel’s property, and won’t be the last time, either.

Eyewitnesses said the wild cat ran off towards a mosque being chased by street dogs, and others said it tried attacking the workers attempting to sedate it with a dart gun.

After an alarm was raised, it walked down the lanes, descended into the lake and swam across it, before disappearing into the Ayarpatta jungle.
