Let’s unbox a PS4 Slim (because no one’s done that yet)

In addition to improved menus and folders, the 4.0 update also brings a couple other important updates…

Here’s a round-up of the key features. For those who have the PlayStation 4 Pro, players can now transfer their saved data through a wired LAN connection. With this update, we’re adding functionality to create folders on PS4’s content launcher and Library.

The What’s New and Content Info screens have been rearranged and redesigned to make them easier to access and more informative with information from friends and what they’re playing. It has also been made better with a load of new functionalities which include a Music section which allows a player to play Spotify without having to open it.

Improved quick menu – The quick menu no longer takes up all of the screen and can be customised so you can fiddle with the music you are playing, parties you can join and see trophies for the game you are now playing. I’ll also be happy to share my great “Overwatch” moments on Twitter now that I have more than 10 seconds of video to work with. The content info screens for game tiles will now allow someone to quickly see the game’s overview, trending, friends and communities, activities, and PlayStation Store sections.

The PlayStation Plus hub now shows a percentage meter for your online storage usage.

The update also includes misc features, like the ability to view the Trophy collection offline, redesigned user profiles, and more.

There are plenty of other tweaks too, just in time for the PS4 Slim to hit this week, on Thursday 15 September in the US, Friday 16 September.

We’ve added a range of shortcuts to the most commonly used settings, allowing you to do things like invite friends to a party, or check out which of your friends are now online and see what games they’re playing – all without leaving your current play session. Even if you take the original Playstation 4 out of the picture, you are still left with two consoles to choose from. The introduction of folders alone would have been cause to celebrate.
