Lewis: Dalton doesn’t need surgery, he’s ‘week-to-week’

The Cincinnati Bengals reportedly have reached out to quarterbacks Ryan Mallett and Christian Ponder following Sunday’s game when Andy Dalton fractured the thumb on his throwing hand while making a tackle in the first quarter. Sunday against the Steelers, the Alabama product completed 22 of his 32 pass attempts in the game for 280 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in relief of Dalton.

As far as when Dalton will be able to play again, Schefter reports that will depend entirely on how quickly he’s able to heal.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5) are coming to Cincinnati and the Bengals have a chance to not only clinch the AFC North title with a victory but get a rare win over their division rival at Paul Brown Stadium.

Dalton is seeing a hand specialist as I write this, but suffice to say it’s a solemn day in the Queen City.

What would make Dalton’s loss even worse for the Bengals is if Eifert also must miss a significant amount of time. “You have so many guys who are from or played in OH, I think we look forward to these things”. He won’t play this week. “We’ll see how it goes during the week”.

“Our football team has a lot of confidence in AJ McCarron”, said Lewis. “I’m not really anxious about history”.

Instead of backtracking, though, Jones stood by his message later on, tweeting, “Lmao and I still stand by what I said, we okay 10-3 and we have a chip on our shoulders!!!!” At 10-3, the Bengals have three games left and two out of those three games are winnable.

NEW LEVEL OF NASTINESS: There was trash talk after the Bengals’ 16-10 win in Pittsburgh on November 1 that intensified in the week leading up to this game and carried over to the field.

Indeed, Cincinnati has been one-and-done in the NFL’s wild-card playoff round each of the past four seasons, and somewhat surprisingly they appear headed for a similar fate despite starting 8-0 in 2015.

– Denard Robinson (6 percent owned in Yahoo leagues) took the lead after Yeldon’s injury and could offer some value as a potential spot starter in Jacksonville if Yeldon misses significant time. After running for 60 yards in two games, the St. Louis running back, and a likely top-five fantasy pick for 2016, broke loose for 140 yards and two touchdowns against Detroit. “You have to love pressured moments”.

“We’re going to continue to work and play like we still have a shot at this”. “Nothing’s changed. We’re chasing the same goals, the same dreams. We just had a different demeanor about us”. “We got to put points on the board and win ballgames”.

McCarron showed all the signs of a quarterback who spent the entire season toting a clipboard.

Despite defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14, the Pittsburgh Steelers would still be on the outside looking in if the playoffs were to start today. Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said Campbell plans to stay retired.

Inexplicably, he stared down cornerback William Gay but let go an ill-advised sideline floater to Mohamed Sanu. Lewis spoke with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin on Monday about the pregame confrontation on the field involving players from both sides. “That’s not the way it should be”.
