Daniel Ricciardo met Dynamo at the Singapore Grand Prix but sadly for the Australian, the magician was unable to do anything about Nico Rosberg continuing his winning streak.
“Four really quick cars, different strategies and I must really take my hat off to Red Bull, they pulled off a great strategy at the end”.
“The whole weekend went perfectly so today it’s a big deal but tomorrow not so much”.
I had a great start and a great vehicle. “We’ve come very close this year on numerous occasions but you know, I’m not going to stand up here and be disappointed”, reflected Ricciardo, who made the podium for the third consecutive race.
A late push saw the Red Bull F1 driver come close to catching Rosberg, who suffered braking issues during the entire race. Spain’s Fernando Alonso held his nerve to win the race, but his Renault team-mate Nelson Piquet Jr later admitted that he purposefully crashed under team orders to bring out the safety auto and enhance Alonso’s chances of winning.
“The brakes were just on the limit but that’s expected and it worked out fine”.
“Confidence is key around Singapore and if your team-mate gets out of the block in the way Nico did this weekend, it becomes very hard”.
Hamilton claims his own brake issues were his downfall during the race at the Marina Bay street circuit, and resulted in him watching race victor Rosberg and second-placed Daniel Ricciardo ease ahead over the opening stint.
Initially the team planned to respond to the Red Bull move, but they ended up thwarted and missing the opportunity.
After a fierce competition, Rosberg finished ahead of Ricciardo, and Hamilton and Raikkonen placed third and fourth respectively. He had a great start, controlled the pace and on the contrary, Lewis didn’t have a clean weekend. Caught us a bit there in a hard moment.
“After the race I said to the team we will win somewhere”, he said. The tyre lasted just right. Now I am going to celebrate after this, can’t wait to get home and next stop is Malaysia where I will try to (win) because I am feeling good at the moment. Unable to dial in his W07 vehicle for the tricky and demanding Singapore circuit, Hamilton never appeared capable of challenging for victory as Rosberg secured his third win in a row.
