Lexi Thompson fights back pain, takes Meijer LPGA lead
South Korean Chun In-gee reeled off four birdies in five holes on the back nine to vault into a share of the third-round lead with American Lexi Thompson at the Meijer LPGA Classic today.

The 19-year-old New Zealander backed up her opening four-under 67 with a second-round 68, mixing four birdies with a lone bogey at the par-four 15th.
Davies’ compatriot Jodi Ewart Shadoff was in a group of seven players just one shot off the lead as the course offered up good scoring conditions.
Laura Davies had collected 16 of her 20 LPGA victories before this year’s major winners Brooke Henderson and Lydia Ko were even born, but the English veteran showed on Thursday she can still compete with the teenagers. She had eight birdies and two bogeys. “I started out not as well as I would have liked, 1 over for the front nine, but I made a lot of birdies on the back and go 4 under, so overall it was a pretty steady day”.
Ariya Jutanugarn, third last week after winning her previous three starts, was 5 under after a 69.
Lee, the Golf Australia rookie squad member, has already won on tour in America this year and is in hot form leading into the US Women’s Open. The U.S. Women’s Open champion, Chun sat out a month earlier this year because of a back injury after she was struck by a suitcase that rival South Korean player Ha Na Jang’s father accidentally dropped down an escalator at the Singapore airport. I remembered a lot.
When asked if she noticed any chances in her play after her first major win, she said “Not really yet”. I putted really well yesterday. “I was really happy that it did go in”.
“I just hit a lot of drivers and, if my game’s on, it comes together”, said Thompson, possibly in danger of missing the Olympics if the back problem lingers into the busy summer.
Ciganda had six birdies in a bogey-free round.
Sharp meanwhile is hoping to snare her first title after six top-10 finishes in 11 seasons. “Anybody can make something happen and it just takes two more really good days and hopefully looking at that trophy on Sunday”.
