Lexus Puts Ice Wheels Onto Its NX SUV
Yesterday, December 21, Lexus released videos of their latest feat, involving their NX driving on wheels made entirely of ice. (The eerie blue backlighting certainly doesn’t hurt.) I wouldn’t recommend this setup for winter driving since the goal is usually to avoid ice – but then again, I wouldn’t recommend it for summer driving, either, considering that your wheels would cease to exist within an hour or two.

Once it was running, they drove the vehicle down a road in London.
We see a lot of stories come across our news desk regarding cars on ice – usually, some high-performance model sliding across a lake in Sweden.
When it comes to cooking up weird, interesting, and wonderful ideas, Lexus isn’t one to shy away.
The “ice-tyre Lexus NX” sports four hand-sculpted ice tires made from optically flawless, crystal-clear ice.
We can’t help but to wonder, how long does it take for it to actually melt?
The team used softened water for creating the wheels and mimicking the tyres on them, to the “millimeter-perfect finish”. But, what do I know? To make sure the wheels would handle the NX’s weight, acrylic inserts were added to boost strength.
According to Richard Balshaw, Lexus Director, “creating wonderful is what Lexus is about”. In October, it had an IS recreated from cardboard.

There’s little practicality to the stunt, besides helping Lexus sell more cars. However, it isn’t available for purchase, so there’s no way you can live your fantasy of becoming Marty McFly any time soon.
