LG Comes Up with Thinnest LCD Display of the World
There was a time when Apple’s iPhones reigned supreme and the next best was miles behind them. But the competition has become hot and the gap between Apple and Samsung has almost disappeared. Others are also fast catching up as all electronics giant vie for their slice of the pie. With mobiles becoming thinner and lighter with each passing day, the Korean electronics giant LG has unveiled the world’s thinnest full HD LCD display that can be used by mobile makers and manufacturers of other electronic devices like laptops and tablets.

The panel that was introduced by the company a few days ago is 5.2 inches long and a mere 2.2mm thick. It really looks like a paper thin card that has been designed keeping in mind the grip of the mobile users. The display produces a resolution of 1920X1080p with a brightness level of 535nits that is good enough to allow the user to read the display even under the glare of sunlight. At 10,000 lux, the display delivers a contrast ratio of 3.74:1. These parameters make it the brightest LCD panel currently available in the market.
LG display claims that it has used a technology called Advanced One Glass Solution for making the panel. This is a technology that has been developed by LG itself and allows for inserting printed circuits that are dual flexible between the touch film and the LCD panel. There are fewer lines on the panel (reduced by 30%) that helps in enhancing the brightness of the panel. All the package of the panel has been bonded together using a resin that is transparent thereby not creating any obstruction and not reducing visibility at all. This is the reason why this new panel is great for viewing videos and movies outdoors. OGS is a technology for the future as it not only paves the way for slimmer smartphones but also improves upon their brightness which is critical feature while selecting a device.
Introducing the LCD panel to the world, the VP and head of LG Display said that the thinnest HD panel for smartphones was a result of ongoing research and a reflection of the high level of expertise of the engineers in LG. He added that LG is a brand that is already known for its world class IPS and touch screen technologies and this new LCD panel is a proof of the company’s commitment to provide users with the most advanced and developed display technology.
The new slimmer HD LCD panel will allow the smartphone manufacturers to reduce the thinness of their devices. It will also enable companies to install more powerful and bigger batteries in their smartphones courtesy this small display. This will lead to phones that will be able to last much longer than the smartphones of today. Company has refused to divulge the device or the time frame in which it will present the panel to the masses. But rumors suggest that the new LG Optimus 2 might be fitted with this LCD panel.
