LG G5 smartphone to have an “always on” display

The info you’ll see appears to essentially be the “glance view” from older Nokia models and the LG G4.

The question on most people’s lips will be how much battery life this Always On screen will eat up. This statement is reportedly official as it has been posted on the company’s official Facebook page.

At Mobile World Congress, along with LG, both Samsung and Huawei are expected to announce new flagship phones, with Samsung expected to unveil its next Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. It could even be going down the same road as Yota did for its YotaPhone 2, and put a secondary e-ink screen on the back. That’s not a major departure from what Motorola has done with active notifications on phones since 2013’s Moto X, but it does suggest that LG could switch to a new screen technology for the G5.

This low power screen only lights up a certain area with very low light, ideal for an Always On notification section of a display then. The “always on” feature will allow users to always see the time and date on their screen, as well as any notifications that they may have missed. LG will likely have to squeeze in a large battery or find an efficient way to extend battery life to compensate for this feature if it turns out to be part of the G5.

This type of expose was revealed on the phone’s display and it said the following “Never go asleep while others do”.

Similar to upcoming flagships, the LG G5 will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset along with a 3GB of RAM.

Android Headlines cited other predicted features that might be present in the LG G5.
