LG Super UHD TVs To Debut In CES 2016
Roku is best known for its streaming boxes, but the company is starting to leave a mark in the smart TV world as well: Roku and its hardware partners have sold around one million smart TVs to USA consumers since first entering the space in 2014, the company announced Monday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Both the DX900 TV and the UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray player feature a raft of advanced picture processing technologies created to offer the “maximum possible benefit from all the extra detail, colour range, brightness, contrast and accuracy the Ultra HD Blu-ray format can deliver”.

Both the series and the lower-end UH7700 (49 to 65 inches) also tout a “True Black” panel that cuts glare and improves contrast, along with a Contrast Maximizer option that… well, does what it says. The Contrast Maximizer on the other hand adds to the depth of the videos by separating objects from their backgrounds.
The line up will have models that display the ULTRA Slim design.
Roku is also releasing the Roku TV HDR reference design for TV partners to incorporate High Dynamic Range technology into future 4K UHD Roku TV models.
Furthermore, the TVs will run off the company’s latest WebOS 3.0 software, which features a user-friendly interface that allows consumers to easily switch among sources and channels, as well as a zoom functionality capable of offering extremely close views of a specific portion of a picture.
“The diverse group of UHDA companies agreed that to realise the full potential of Ultra HD the specs need to go beyond resolution and address enhancements like HDR, expanded color and ultimately even immersive audio”. Think of 8K TVs like the LG UH9800 as the trailblazers; they drum up consumer interest and pave the way for smaller, more affordable models down the road. However, the UH9500 is expected to be LG’s thinnest TV yet, with almost imperceptible bezels.
The company will also showcase its top-notch 65-inch UH9500 and 86-inch UH9550 TVs with the “most advanced IPS display in the industry” at the trade show. For more information, please visit www.LG.com.
It’s only been a few years since the introduction of 4K, which donned four times the resolution of regular high definition screens.
