LG unveils the first phone to ship with Google’s new Android

Unlike the V10, the new V20 doesn’t exactly look like a rugged smartphone. The concept was unusual, but it really turned useful over a period of time.

(AP Photo/Mark Lennihan). In this Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, photo, the removable battery plate, left, is shown with the LG V20, in NY. This has enabled it to pass the MIL-STD 810G Transit Drop Test which indicates that the phone could be dropped repeatedly from a height of four feet onto its front, back, sides, or corners and continue to function.

It has two cameras at the back.

“This means you get post-worthy videos from live concerts and other events – no blown out audio”, Lee said of the V2, which has a 5.7 inch high-definition screen. Resolution is identical too at 1440 x 2560.

Although the secondary display is still unique, it isn’t the biggest part of LG’s experience. The second screen is also brighter than the one found on V10.

But those aren’t the features that really make the LG V20 stand out. The Samsung phablet runs last year’s Android 6 Marshmallow and recalls have been prompted by exploding batteries.

On the front, there’s one 5-megapixel wide-angle camera.

These cameras have what LG calls a Hybrid Auto Focus, which combines laser autofocus, phase detection autofocus, and contrast autofocus.

LG did not disclose pricing or sales targets. Video is also improved with a Steady Record 2.0, which works like optical image stabilization to prevent movement from a camera from showing up on a video.

In addition to playback, there’s an HD audio recorder built-in, capable of capturing 24-bit/192KHz FLAC. Besides, it comes with a new design, a new camera setup, and more audio features. But, instead of getting a modular B&O DAC to tag onto the phone, the V20 comes complete with a pair of B&O Play H3 in-ear headphones.

Whether the two-screen, two-camera, removable battery and “utilitarian appearance” are enough to sway buyers and revitalise LG’s falling mobile sales remains to be seen.

Not only is the smartphone’s battery removable (and powered by a fast-charge supporting USB-C port), but the 64GB of UFS storage can be expanded thanks to the inclusion of a microSD slot.
