/ The nominations for the 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced Wednesday morning. Yet, individual nominations, especially for movies, remained largely white – only adding to concerns this will be yet another monochromatic awards season.
The twenty-second edition of the SAG will be held on January 30th from the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, California, under the presentation of Anna Faris and Anthony Mackie.
Unlike the Oscars and Golden Globes, SAG lets film distributors decide the categories in which to place their candidates.
The nominees are chosen by panels made up of 2,200 randomly selected members of the union before 116,000 SAG-AFTRA members cast their ballots for the winners.
“Orange’s” Uzo Aduba earned an acting nomination, as did “Big Bang’s” Jim Parsons, “Transparent’s” Jeffrey Tambor and “Veep’s” Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The Hateful Eight missing out on a Best Cast nomination is particularly eye-opening, since that cast is stacked with stars.
