Liam Payne says One Direction was “never Zayn’s bag”

As it turns out, the real truth is that One Direction was never Zayn Malik’s “bag” anyway, and so he really quit so he could go and focus on his own solo career, as his music was a little different to what One Direction were making.

In an interview with Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, Liam Payne got pretty honest about why he thought Z felt it necessary to part ways with hisbros.

Liam, 22, who was named Attitude magazine’s Sexiest Man at last night’s ceremony at Banqueting House in London’s Whitehall, adds: “One Direction was never Zayn’s kind of bag”.

He elaborated: ‘His taste in music was a bit different, and I guess that’s kind of what drove him to do what he did in the end, which is not necessarily a bad thing’.

“Everyone has come out fine from it thanks to our attractive fans”.

The guys also chatted a little about Zayn Malik leaving 1D, with Liam explaining they are all “winners” after this “disaster of a situation” shook out.

Meanwhile, the remaining members of One Direction – Liam, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Niall Horan – are preparing to go on hiatus, but taking a break doesn’t mean they won’t be seeing one another as the quartet are already planning a holiday together. They said today they haven’t put pressure on themselves by deciding on an end date for the break and will instead take it as it comes.

We’ve spent five years touring every year, so not touring is gonna be freakish. But we will still see plenty of each other.

Here’s where you might want to have a tissue handy…when asked what they’ll miss during their time off, Louis said, “Actually it’s just the day-to-day things, we are like family now”.
