Liesl from ‘The Sound of Music’ dies

The actress died from “complications from a rare form [of] dementia”, Us Magazine said.

At age 21, the actress portrayed Liesl von Trapp in the 1965 film musical “The Sound of Music”.

The 73-year-old actress was best known for playing Liesl alongside Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in the iconic movie.

Although she never returned to the movie business, Carr, who married and had two children, regularly took part in special events connected to her famous screen role and authored two memoirs, Forever Liesl and Letters to Liesl.

After Sound of Music, Carr only featured in one other role – Stephen Sondheim’s television musical, Evening Primrose. “I will miss her. charm and her spirit”, they continued.

Her mother had arranged for her to audition for The Sound of Music role, although she had had no singing or acting lessons.

The von Trapps were a musical family whose escape from Nazi-occupied Austria was the basis for “The Sound of Music”.

Police and firefighters are at the scene of an apparent explosion in New York City, and authorities say 29 people suffered injuries.

One client was Jackson, who said “The Sound of Music” was his favorite film, Carr’s family said in a prepared obituary. Her family moved to Los Angeles when she was 10.

Carr is survived by her two daughters; two sisters and two brothers; four grandchildren and her niece.

“It is with infinite sadness that I share the tragic news that the precious and exquisite Charmian Carr, handsome Liesl, has passed away”, she tweeted.

In 2000, Carr began co-hosting sing-along screenings of the film across the US.
