Life is unusual, the popular episodic adventure game from Dontnod Entertainment is set to receive a live-action adaptation.

Publisher Square Enix is partnering with Legendary Digital Studios on the project. dj2 entertainment, the team now working on Sony’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie will also be involved in the production.

“Life is odd is one of those rare properties that combines incredibly developed characters and storylines with deeply engaging gameplay”, said Greg Siegel, Senior Vice President of Development and Production for Legendary Digital Studios, in a press release.

Said to hew close to Dontnod’s hit five-part series, which followed the curious mind of Max Caulfield and her eerie ability to manipulate time, it’s understood Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons of dj2 Entertainment will nurture the adaptation.

The search for a Writer and Director for the live-action series is due to begin shortly.

Koch sees the move as another way of bringing the story of Life is odd to an entirely different audience. The pair soon find themselves investigating the mysterious disappearance of fellow student Rachel Amber, which uncovers a dark side to life in their town, Arcadia Bay.

“We’re proud and excited to be working alongside Legendary to realise a new version of Arcadia Bay and Blackwell Academy complete with our rich cast of realistic, believable characters and memorable events”, says Jon Brooke, VP of brand and European marketing at Square Enix. The first episode of the game, “Chrysalis”, is now free indefinitely on PC, Mac, PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Plus, it’s already in an episodic format, so it’s a flawless fit. “Because there are a lot of people who still don’t play video games or sometimes just want to relax on their couch and watch a TV show or movie”. We’re crossing our fingers for the game’s original stars: Hannah Telle (Max) and Ashly Burch (Chloe) because they were pretty much ideal.
