A odd, bright light in the night sky on Saturday night had Californians from the Bay Area to San Diego abuzz on social media.

At first, California authorities were unsure of the source of the light, but the Orange County Sheriff’s Department later said through Twitter that the light was from a naval test fire off the coast of California.
Such launches are conducted on a frequent, recurring basis to ensure the continued reliability of the system, Perry said, as well as to provide systems information and assurances of their capabilities. Ryan Perry said in a statement.
But the FAA has indicated that military airspace over that patch of ocean was activated beginning on Friday night and continuing through Thursday night, airport officials said. When a comet comes into the atmosphere, it is normal for there to be a white light and then a blue and green streak, according to Payne. The unarmed missile was sacked from the USS Kentucky, a ballistic submarine.
Lights over a Temecula sports fields, and as far away as Utah, Arizona and Nevada led people to question the source.
The missile was not armed, and information about it was classified prior to the launch.
Though social media was buzzing with the possibilities of aliens landing on Earth, it seems more plausible the light was either a rocket test or part of the Taurid meteor shower.
