Lights out: Cities Mark the 10th Annual Earth Hour
Earth Hour encourages individuals, companies, organizations and Governments to switch off their lights for one hour at 8:30 p.m., local time worldwide, to focus attention on people-driven solutions to protecting the planet and building a bright, sustainable future.

The theme of this year’s Earth Hour is “Places We Love”, celebrating the beaches, forests, reefs, snow-capped mountains and rivers which are at risk from climate change.
Moscow switched off the external lights of more than 1,000 buildings, including the Christ the Savior Cathedral, Luzhniki stadium, Ostankino television tower, World Trade Center, Moscow Zoo, Moscow City skyscrapers, railway stations, hotels and museums. Earth Hour reminds us that we all have a role to play.

“If we look at what’s working – look at the likes of the Luas system in Dublin, look at the likes of the green bins we’ve put in, they work, if you look at the amount of renewable power we’ve had, it’s working”, he said.
Earth Hour’s global executive director Siddarth Das said organisers were excited about how much the movement had grown since it began nine years ago.
Visitors to and residents of New Delhi saw several of the capital’s most iconic public buildings plunged into darkness, such as Rashtrapati Bhawan, North Block, India Gate and Rajpath.
In addition to the Paris climate conference, Miller points to recent premiers’ meetings as well as agreements between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Barack Obama as a sign of “tremendous momentum” on climate change in Canada.
“It is a proud moment for us to say that the Pakistan’s national assembly building is the first in the world to be powered by solar energy”, said the speaker while stressing to put our heads together to combat climate change.

WWF ambassador Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski said Filipinos could contribute to the global cause through simple actions like promoting climate change awareness in social media and proper waste disposal. The annual campaign that started in 2007 banks on the simple action of switching off lights for 60 minutes to highlight the need for decisive climate change solutions.
