Lin-Manuel Miranda brings Broadway to James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke
Now just a little over a year since launching “The Late Late Show with James Corden”, Corden has proven that he has no trouble finding laughs and an audience.

The trip kicked off with the opening number from Miranda’s smash show, which gave Corden the chance to lay down some rapid “Hamilton” rhymes. Then Audra McDonald, Jane Krakowski, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are picked up off a street corner for the rest of the ride. She already has a Tony award to her credit for the 2003 Broadway revival of Nine.
Corden flips the music right back on after a few seconds of banter – and the quintet enthusiastically serenades viewers with “Seasons of Love” from “Rent”.
Miranda, who wrote the book and music – in addition to starring in – the Broadway show, sits in the passenger seat with Corden for the latest installment of the recurring segment from The Late Late Show.
While James Corden made the ill-advised choice to drive his vehicle through New York City’s crowded Broadway, he did at least find himself in some good company.
Corden is also set to serve as host of this year’s Tony’s on June 12, virtually assuring that won’t be the only stage he and Miranda share, as “Hamilton” is nominated for a record setting 16 awards. “People want to have a great time”, McDonald tells him. “They couldn’t find a host to whom it means more”.
“It’s a long evening so just have fun”. Later, Corden asked Ferguson: “Which do you prefer: Theater or money?”
Though we know James can hold a tune, he’s never shown the world that he can rap quite like that!

“Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” from the “Jersey Boys” soundtrack came up next, which they had a blast interpreting before the big, must-sing finale.
