Lin-Manuel Miranda has officially said adios and farewell to “Hamilton”.

Miranda played his final performance as Alexander Hamilton on Saturday evening and not long after curtain call, he sat down for a haircut.

A day after the worst mass shooting in USA history – where 49 people were killed at Latin night at a gay bar in Orlando – Miranda used his acceptance speech at the Tony Awards to pay tribute to the victims, saying, “Remember that hope and love last forever”.

Just 15 minutes after his exit, Miranda sent a Twitter message suggesting that the show will continue to thrive without him in the title role.

Hamilton came to Broadway in August 2015, seven months after its off-Broadway debut at The Public Theatre in NY.

Closer to curtain, a rush of celebrities arrived, including Spike Lee, Rosie O’Donnell, Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez, who was met by the screams of onlookers.

Tony Award victor Leslie Odom Junior and Tony nominee Phillipa Soo are also leaving the cast. Miranda had become interested in Alexander Hamilton’s story in high school, as he wrote a paper telling of his duel with Aaron Burr.

Odom, Jr. has a new jazz album out, while Miranda will be focusing on his new-found Hollywood career. He had tweeted, “Okay see you on the marquee”.

While Lin-Manuel Miranda will be singing and dancing alongside the new Mary Poppins, played by Emily Blunt, he will not be writing any of the songs that will appear in the film.

Given the significance of the Saturday performance, the show halted several times due to standing ovations, including after Miranda’s opening number and Odom Jr.’s “The Room Where It Happens”.

Hamilton is set to undergo a Chicago production in fall 2016, and a touring production will also hit the road in 2017, starting in San Francisco.
