Lin-Manuel Miranda Is Officially Leaving ‘Hamilton’ And Here’s Who’ll Replace Him

As we reported from the Tony press room, Miranda is still planning to appear in Hamilton from time to time.

Fortunately, Miranda has taken pity on those of us who couldn’t get to New York City in time, and revealed to USA Today that Hamilton will be filmed before his departure.

The Hamilton creator has been cast in the upcoming sequel to Marry Poppins, and is known for wanting to turn his In the Heights musical into a Hollywood film. The musical has just brought home about a billion Tony Awards, but there have also been murmurings that Miranda’s time starring in the play was coming to a close.

Muñoz, a Brooklyn native who grew up in East New York, now plays Alexander Hamilton for one performance a week.

“I think this is a role I’m going to come back to again and again”, he said. Til I need help jumping on the desk.

Munoz has been the closely associated with Miranda and his work for several years.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Miranda said that he and some other members of the cast were contracted through July, but didn’t go into detail about his plans. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a Fathom Events showing (or similar), and don’t even dare hope for a longer theatrical run.

“For people who will say, ‘But I’ll never see Lin as Hamilton!’ – yes, you will”. “He’s got filming of me writing ‘My Shot, ‘ ” the composer said of one of “Hamilton’s” most popular songs. There’s a 90-minute, independently produced documentary, “Hamilton’s America”, that will be broadcast October 17 on PBS. “But we’re getting it”, Miranda, 36, tweeted Thursday, referring to the high-security bank in “Harry Potter”.
