Lin-Manuel Miranda leaving ‘Hamilton’ July 9; vows to return
Lin-Manuel Miranda is officially leaving his starring role in his Tony / Grammy / Pulitzer-winning musical, Hamilton, on July 9th.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and star of ‘Hamilton, ‘ says understudy Javier Munoz will step into his boots.
Miranda confirmed the date of his final performance date (July 9) and talked about the plans to film the show with reporters at a breakfast event this morning.
Javier Muñoz, Miranda’s alternate as Alexander Hamilton in the show, will take over the role beginning July 11. On Sunday, it won 11 Tony Awards, including best new musical, best book and best score. The waiting list for Hamilton tickets was already very long, and many would-be theater-goers were disappointed to think that they would never get to see Miranda in the title role.
He’ll also appear opposite Emily Blunt as the lead of a Mary Poppins sequel slated for Christmas 2018, so look out for that.
In a press release issued by the school, Miranda said, “I’m truly honored and excited that Wesleyan has created this prize”. Miranda’s 1 ½-year-old son, Sebastian – who, not by coincidence, shares his name with a character in another Disney animated film musical, The Little Mermaid – watches test screenings regularly on his dad’s computer.
So it won’t be live on pay-per-view like Laura Benanti-Zachary Levi show She Loves Me (recently announced to be the first Broadway show broadcast live).
Even more exciting than Miranda’s inevitable return to his epic Broadway role is the news that fans might soon get to see the musical on screen. “A lot of it is young people, so you need to do a lot of detective work in finding new people as well as some seasoned performers”, says Telsey, who’s also a veteran theater producer and co-artistic director of MCC Theater. “You’re going to be like, ‘When will you stop playing it?” he joked.
He will also be involved in Hamilton’s West End opening in fall 2017.

Additionally, Miranda said on Twitter that the PBS documentary and the mixtape for “Hamilton” will be dropped in October this year.
