Lin-Manuel Miranda moving from ‘Hamilton’ to ‘The Little Mermaid’

After years in development, it seems things are finally moving forward on Disney’s live-action remake of its animated classic ” The Little Mermaid”, with the Mouse House securing some big-name talent to work behind the scenes on the flick. He recently penned all the songs to the Disney animated pic “Moana” starring Dwayne Johnson and is also set to co-star opposite Emily Blunt in “Mary Poppins Returns”. Menken worked on the animated feature and scooped up two Oscars for his trouble (Best Score and Best Original Song for “Under the Sea”). As for Miranda, this deepens his burgeoning relationship with Disney. There’s no word yet as to a premiere day, or when shooting will start – or who will play Ariel and Ursula – and Miranda’s schedule is pretty full in the coming months with other Disney-related projects.

Miranda will team up with legendary Disney composer Alan Menken for a live-action Little Mermaid feature, Deadline reports and sources confirm to HitFix. In fact, his son is named Sebastian in part as a tribute to the crab from The Little Mermaid. Last weekend’s Pete’s Dragon won over critics with its sweet, nostalgic charm, and both Cinderella and The Jungle Book managed to bring the magic back into their study old source materials.

Miranda told EW last December that Mermaid is “the movie that’s probably most responsible for me being here”.

Let’s not forget. Miranda has already tasted success on Broadway twice – first with IN THE HEIGHTS, then with HAMILTON.
