Actor and “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, center, takes his final performance curtain call at the Richard Rogers Theatre on Saturday, July 9, 2016, in NY.
The audience was understandably emotional, giving standing ovations to the departing cast members throughout the show, especially during Miranda’s opening number, “Alexander Hamilton”, Odom’s “The Room Where It Happens” and Christopher Jackson and Miranda’s “One Last Time”.
“Hamilton” won 11 awards at this year’s Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize and a Grammy.
Miranda’s next move will be preparing for his film role in the sequel to Mary Poppins; he’ll play a lamplighter named Jack. Soo will frontline an upcoming musical adaptation of the French comedy Amelie, while Odom Jr. will focus on his music career. (Jeff Bachner for New York Daily News) Javier Munoz, the actor set to take over Miranda’s role, at the “Hamilton” after party.
Just 15 minutes after his exit, Miranda sent a Twitter message suggesting that the show will continue to thrive without him in the title role.
“We wanted to see the show but we were OK to wait for a while”.
Nearby, Hannah Ferkol, who was visiting from IL but didn’t have a ticket, admired the painting.
The event was attended by President Obama, Defense Secretary Ash Carter, and Secretary of State John Kerry, before he dipped out early to head back to the U.S.
As of Saturday afternoon, resale tickets on Ticketmaster were selling for up to $5,062, with the lowest price at $1,764.
“Everyone in line was laughing, because it was so far out”, he said.
After the audience filed out of the theater, hundreds of fans stood on the Manhattan street in the pouring rain hoping that members of the cast might make an appearance at the stage door.
