Lincoln Unveils Newly Designed MKZ

Lincoln used the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show to take the wraps off the new version of its midsize luxury sedan, the MKZ.

It’s a 3.0-liter V-6 that, when matched up with optional all-wheel drive, produces 400 horsepower and 400 pounds-feet of torque.

The new Lincoln grille, introduced on the Continental sedan concept at the NY show in April, is framed by distinctive LED headlights, but otherwise the exterior of the MKZ remains unchanged in this mid-cycle refresh. In the new Lincoln, this engine is stretched to 3.0 liters and the output is a stunning 400 horsepower and 400lb-ft of torque – making the new MKZ the most powerful Lincoln production model ever.

Most impressive, however, is a few of the new pieces of technology available on the MKZ.

The new Lincoln MKZ is also available in a hybrid alternative as well; and a 2.0-liter GTDI, 245-horsepower four-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive.

Three drive modes, including comfort, normal and sport, are assisted by an electronically-powered steering wheel to provide effort-free handling. The MKZ continues to offer its large retractable panoramic glass roof, and the sedan receives the Revel premium sound system that debuted on the MKX. Other assist features include the car’s ability to parallel and perpendicular park itself, and the ability to automatically apply the brakes in the event of a collision with another vehicle or a pedestrian. The brakes disengage when the gas pedal is pressed.

Buyers seeking a higher level of service and customization can again opt for a Black Label edition that includes three interior packages and a personalized, in-home design consultation. The Lincoln MKZ over the past few years is a fine auto, but there is no question that it falls a touch short of some of the bigger movers in the midsized luxury sedan segment.
