Lindsey Graham drops out of presidential race – 12/21/2015 7:39:09 PM
Graham “won” by being loose, displaying knowledge and espousing pragmatism in the face of the extreme words that have dominated so much of the agenda in the crowded GOP field. Senator Lindsey Graham is ending his presidential campaign, he told CNN during an exclusive interview airing Monday. “We’re going to have to start consolidating as Republicans”.
Graham’s endorsement will likely be sought by those still in the race ahead of the primary in his home state of SC – which follows New Hampshire’s by less than two weeks in February.
Early in the race, Trump gave out Graham’s cellphone number during a rally in SC.
The federal government provides $528 million in funding for Planned Parenthood – about 40 percent of the organization’s annual budget – mostly through payments to Medicaid for services provided for low-income patients.
Graham’s exit is expected to cause a realignment of GOP support in the Palmetto State. He did not immediately back any other candidates, although his Republican presidential rivals raced to praise him. “That’s what Lindsey has had on the sidelines: big check writers”.
“Of all the people that could have an influence on the race, I think Tim Scott is in a position to have the strongest influence”, said Robert Oldendick, a University of SC professor.
He also warned Americans against nominating Donald Trump for president.
Graham said that Trump can not defeat Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton in the general election at this point and not “without some major adjustments”.
Graham, 60, plunged into the contest in June on a platform of hawkish foreign policy and a declaration that newcomers need not apply for a job that offers no chance for “on-the-job training”. As USA Today notes, Arizona Sen. Yet privately, according to Graham strategist Brett O’Donnell, the senator was thinking about a way out of the race. “Good job, good effort, GOP”.
Reaction to Graham’s departure among Central residents was mixed. “At the same time, the party’s front-runner has consistently demonized immigrant communities….”

Responding to rumours about his sexuality on a previous occasion, Graham joked about whether he was having a secret affair with Ricky Martin. In January, when Graham announced his presidential exploratory committee, he was excited about the chance to challenge Senator Rand Paul to a foreign policy debate.
