Vonn won by nearly a second and a half Sunday. She’s closer to the overall World Cup wins record of 86 held by retired Swede Ingemar Stenmark.
“It was a big deal”, said Vonn. “I was so confident in all disciplines”, reflected Vonn. With her weekend sweep, the St. Paul, Minn. native upped her totals to an astounding 70 World Cup victories, including 18 at Lake Louise – the most by any skier at any single venue.
“I knew from experience I could make it up if I skied well”, Vonn said. She swept all three races in 2011 and 2012.
“I think (course conditions) were a little bit better than I expected”, said Vonn, who’s from Vail, Colorado.
The super-G race on the Birds of Prey slope had to be run on a shortened course due to snowfall, fog, and heavy wind.
“I feel like there were some people that doubted whether I could win today, and especially because Lara [Gut] had won the last couple races here in super-G”, Vonn said, according to media in Lake Louise. Maze, the 2013 champion, is taking a season off.
On Sunday in the super-G, Vonn will try to finish off her third Lake Louise hat trick.
“It was so fun”. “I still want to push as hard as I possibly can”. “I should probably not do that (Saturday)”.
Somehow, she recovered. The mistake hardly even slowed her down as the American standout was her dominant self on a hill that’s become like a second home.
“It’s just astounding to me how good of an understanding she has of the terrain, above everybody else and knowing exactly when to let her skis go”, Shiffrin said. A year later, she fell on her left hip, but recovered to finish second. People say it’s because she’s taller and stronger than everyone else. I feel really confident in super-G.
It’s a juggling act to be her own marketing manager, chief financial officer and high-performance director in addition to skiing fast. I love the speed. “We’ll just hopefully both be kicking ass”. Justin Edmonds Getty Images Vonn will not be participating in the 2014 Olympics because she re-injured her right knee. A few weeks earlier, Yurkiw finished just off the podium in Lake Louise, Alta., in fourth.
“I think I did a good job today”. “I saw at the start that the light was getting bad, but I heard that some girls before me had good results”.

“Starting first wasn’t easy because I didn’t have the report from other skiers and how they skied it. It still went really well”.
