Popular messaging app LINE has beaten its competitors to the punch by upgrading its security which protects messages from unauthorized access during delivery.

Back in the days when we used to write actual, physical letters to our loved ones, if you don’t want anyone to accidentally or deliberately read something before it reaches its intended, you would seal the letter with either glue, stickers, stamps, or maybe even all of the above. WhatsApp introduced the same feature about a year ago, and Telegram also comes bundled with such security measure. Full encryption is applied when both sender and receiver have this enabled.

Japanese messaging app Line has become the latest large platform to enable end-to-end encryption for its users, frustrating governments and other would-be eavesdroppers.

The feature will Initially work with one-to-one individual chats and location sharing, but will be extended to cover other features and devices in the near future. It uses end-to-end encryption technology to hide your conversations away, securing them with a special software key that’s stored only on your device, not a few server elsewhere. You will then need to go to “More Settings Chats & Voice Calls Letting Sealing” to turn it on since it isn’t enabled by default.
