Lines form in wake of pipeline spill

Six states across the region – Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia – have declared states of emergency, relaxing limits on fuel transportation to try to stave off shortages and price spikes. The cause of the leak has not been determined, and full service will not be restored until next week at the earliest, according to CNN Money.

But the line shut down September 9 when a leak was discovered in Alabama, according to the company. One person tweeted at him on Friday that a gas station in Clarksville went up 30 cents overnight.

“We’re going to have to put a couple jobs together to help cover the gas and the fuel prices”, said Carl Howard. They said fuel wholesalers were hauling gasoline in from fuel terminals and refineries that don’t depend on the downed pipeline. Colonial Pipeline said it is beginning construction of a temporary pipeline that will bypass a leaking section of its main gasoline pipeline in Shelby County, Ala.

“Gov. Deal has done everything possible, including seeking and receiving an EPA waiver and extending his executive order allowing commercial truck drivers hauling motor fuel, to mitigate the effects of the Alabama pipeline spill”, she said.

Commuters say it’s a big concerns for them especially before the start of the work week. On Saturday night, it said it was building a bypass line to get fuel flowing again.

GasBuddy.com said prices could rise 15 cents here, and the pipeline company says it doesn’t expect to fully reopen its pipeline until next week.

An Exxon station in Greenville opened up in the morning, served three customers before the gas ran out.

The cause of the leak is under investigation by the federal Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

“We urge Tennesseans to maintain their normal fuel purchasing and driving patterns to help prevent any potential impacts on our fuel supply while the pipeline undergoes repairs”, said Governor Haslam in a statement.

“We understand there is a little bit of a gas shortage and this is my wife’s vehicle”. They argue that the pipeline would pass through sacred sites and burial ground, and that any future gasoline spills could be culturally and economically catastrophic.

Over the weekend, drivers in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas faced longer lines at the gas pumps and, in some cases, dry pumps.
