LinkedIn embraces video with Q & A clips from its top influencers

Initially, this will be exclusively for the selected group of 500 influencers, and later its might be available for more number of users. It will allow these people to post a clip of maximum 30 seconds.

Facebook and Twitter have been always been overrun with sometimes-hilarious cat videos and clips from users’ exotic vacations, but now LinkedIn is making its first, albeit more restrained, attempt at adding video to your news feed. Similar videos of the same genre will be directed to one place to make browse easy for the users. You can view the answers to that question on LinkedIn from business guru Guy Kawasaki, Homebrew VC Partner Hunter Walk, venture investor Christopher Schroeder and many others.

We have an example of a video below, but from the examples I’ve seen, these might be best described as Quora-style open-ended questions about leadership challenges and the impact of general trends in the world like artificial intelligence, which go along with LinkedIn’s bigger themes around professional development and trends in the working world.

These videos will appear in the regular news feed like any other item.

LinkedIn videos are also limited to just 30 seconds, and autoplay on desktop but not in LinkedIn’s mobile app. Businesses and specific people can upload videos on their profile pages to give more information about their company or persons. LinkedIn’s iOS and Android apps will see the videos pop out into blackened screens when you click on them, too – not unlike Facebook’s video experience. However, up to now, video on LinkedIn has come in the form of links to videos hosted elsewhere, like YouTube. However, all hope is not lost as the company has plans to change that in the very near future. It has followed the same strategy during the launch of its Publishers network.

I think that playbook [of first tapping Influencers and then expanding to others] has been successful for us. Hopefully, the embedding feature will be added soon so that sites like WebProNews can embed videos into related articles.
