There’s been a lot of debate about the death of Cecil the Lion, but a new tribute drawn by an animator on Disney’s The Lion King may be the most thoughtful piece of all.

One of the animators behind The Lion King has paid a moving tribute to Cecil the lion with a special picture.

Blaise put together a timelapse video of his progress and is selling prints of the final image.

The tragic story of Cecil the Lion from Zimbabwe continues to resonate with animal lovers and fans.

The digital rendering calls upon the “Lion King” quote from character Mufasa (voiced by James Earl Jones): “Take a look at the celebs”. Cecil was a favorite of many worldwide tourists and was tagged for scientific study by the Oxford’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit. “In fact, I’ve decided to get personally involved and hopefully our efforts can help educate people and prevent these frightful things from happening in the future”. “It’s not much but hopefully it will make people think”, wrote Aaron on his blog post with the image.

Aaron worked for Disney for 21 years, and penned drawings for Beauty and the Beast and Pocahontas – as well as working on Aladdin.
