The match is sandwiched between two crucial fixtures for the Glasgow club, who are level at 1-1 with Astana of Kazakhstan before the return leg of their Champions League qualifying match at Celtic Park on Wednesday.

Celtic’s last match was in July this year and drew 1 – 1 with Leicester City, before that they beat Lincoln 3 – 0.

Luis Enrique’s side are based at England’s training headquarters for their ICC preparations until Friday and have hosted several partially open training sessions featuring first team stars including Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Cork native Eoghan O’Connell was on target in that game and he will be part of the travelling squad who will take on Barcelona, with tickets still available for the encounter, which has a 6.0 kick-off on Saturday.

Having the privilege of playing alongside Ronaldo for his country and now Messi at club level, Gomes said he was looking forward to getting started with the La Liga champions.

“For Celtic they have much more important games than this coming up with the Champions League qualifiers, but this can help them prepare”, Messi told The Daily Record. Before that they played in October 2013 and Barcelona won the game 0 – 1.
