Lionel Messi wins ‘Best Player of the Year’ at Globe Soccer Awards
Barcelona and star player Lionel Messi triumphed at the seventh edition of the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Sunday, taking home the prizes for best team and best player.

The Argentina forward, who has endured a spell on the sidelines this season, notched 58 goals as Barca enjoyed a memorable treble-winning campaign last season.
Bartomeu added, “And then there was Messi, who is not only the best player in the world for me, but also the best player in the history of the game”.
Josep Maria Bartomeu has admitted that Barcelona “can only live without Lionel Messi for a few weeks”.
And then hit their fellow shoppers as they battle to the death for the best deals.
Elsewhere, Belgium boss Marc Wilmots beat off competition from Italy’s Antonio Conte and Barcelona’s Luis Enrique to be named Coach of the Year, and Benfica’s Academy was recognised.
The key moment of the DISC was the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who entered the conference hall accompanied by Messi.
Messi had a magical 2015, leading Barcelona to five trophies, including the Club World Cup last Sunday.
Barcelona president put the brakes on this idea, as he recalled that professional football has a full calendar and that players need occasional rest and holidays.
