Lions hire Bob Quinn away from Patriots to be GM
Detroit fans can only hope Quinn brings some of that Patriots formula to the Lions.

“We are thrilled to have agreed to a deal with Bob to make him our new general manager”, Wood said.
The Detroit Lions are expected to hire New England Patriots Director of Pro Scouting Bob Quinn as their next general manager, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
He’s considered one of Bill Belichick’s most trusted front office members, second only to Nick Cesario in the Patriots hierarchy.
Others considered for the job were New York Giants assistant general manager Kevin Abrams, Seattle co-director of personnel Trent Kirchner and White.
He was named director of pro scouting in 2012. Quinn earned his master’s degree in sports management from UConn in 2000.
Quinn, a native of Norwood, has worked for the franchise for the last 16 seasons.
When the Lions hired Wood, they said they wanted a general manager who had been with a winning organization.

Quinn might also have to figure out how to attempt to replace superstar receiver Calvin Johnson if he chooses to retire, or if he is cut to avoid a $24 million salary cap hit next season. Everybody else on the roster is either on their rookie contract, expiring within the next year or two, or on such a low-money deal as to be financially expendable. There are seven defensive linemen, three offensive linemen and three corners in the top 20 of the CBS Sports top prospects list, giving Detroit a pretty good base from which to choose if they go in one of those directions. At the time, the Lions promoted White to interim GM. There was no indication in the release whether Quinn intends to keep coach Jim Caldwell. From that moment, team owner Martha Ford outlined a plan for her search and found her candidate Friday.
