Lions likely to face Vikings on Thanksgiving Day

Minnesota hasn’t played on Thanksgiving since 2000, when they defeated the Dallas Cowboys 27-15.

The NFL’s official schedule is typically release in April.

We know where two of the games will be played thanks to Detroit and Dallas remaining the traditional hosts of the games we watch when we aren’t gorging on stuffing or avoiding family members who have had a bit too much to drink. Since the cross-flexing rules were put in play, if a matchup didn’t seem desirable, the schedule would allow two NFC teams to play on CBS, including a recent Detroit-Chicago game on Thanksgiving Day when it was meant to be against an AFC opponent.

Prime-time games were no great friend of the Vikings last season, but according to one account, they’ll get another crack this season on one of the NFL’s biggest stages: a Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Lions.

There has been no word on which teams will comprise the third game held on Thanksgiving. That’s the Vikings’ only loss in six Thanksgiving games, giving the franchise a 5-1 record that trails only the Philadelphia Eagles (6-1, min. three games) for the league’s best.

ESPN adds that it’s likely the Vikings would then play the following week on Thursday Night Football against the Redskins or Cowboys.

This opportunity to play the Vikings is an exciting one with the success that team has had with winning the NFC North and their star running back, Adrian Peterson.
