Lions Sign Darius Slay To 4 Year/$50.2 Million Contract Extension
The deal is expected to be for four years and to be worth $50.2 million with $23 million of that guaranteed. Slay will earn less than the Giants paid for Janoris Jenkins, who earned a five-year, $62.5M deal to leave the Rams this winter.

“I know the organization, they love me”. “They gave me a great opportunity”. I put a lot of good tape on film. The team re-upped with linebacker DeAndre Levy on a new four-year extension last August.
Slay emerged as the Lions’ clear-cut No. 1 cornerback previous year, when he had 59 tackles and two interceptions and sometimes traveled with opposing teams’ No. 1 receivers.
Since Dre’ Bly was in uniform the Lions they haven’t had a strong number one corner in their secondary, but with Detroit locking up their lockdown cornerback in Big Play Slay they know half the field will be covered for years to come. “We also are pleased to have finalized this now so the team and Darius can focus on the start of training camp and preparation for the upcoming season”.
The other big bit of news from the Lions on Friday was injury-related. Neither Levy nor coach Jim Caldwell elaborated on what the problem was.
Lions cornerback Darius Slay was due to make $976,269 this year.
Slay, selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, has played in 45 career games for the Lions, including 36 starts. He’s started all 16 games in Detroit each of the last two seasons, racking up four interceptions and 31 passes defensed during that span.
He said he became pretty emotional after the deal was done.
“Right now, I’ll say top seven, just “cause as long as (Darrelle) Revis is in the game, he’s going to be the best corner to me”, Slay said”. They ended up losing him to free agency.
Slay is the second defensive stalwart the Lions have signed to a long-term extension in as many summers.

“I’m a top guy, that’s it”, Slay said.
“We’re really happy it worked out this way”. It is unclear whether his latest injury is related to the hip problem.

Pro Football Focus rated Slay as the No. 2 overall cornerback and had him ranked No. 8 in pass coverage.
