Liriano, bats lead Pirates over Nationals, 7
The Nationals have managed one run in the three losses.

Pittsburgh Pirates star Andrew McCutchen granted the wish of a young Pirates fan suffering from a heart condition for ESPN’s “My Wish” series.
One thing to keep an eye on is that Liriano is 1-2 when starting against Washington with an ERA that is nearly 4.50.
The Pirates own the second-best record in the National League, but the only team with a better record (and in fact the best record in the majors) is the St. Louis Cardinals, who lead the Pirates in the Central by six games.
Washington could have more injury concerns, though, after third baseman Yunel Escobar left in the second inning with what appeared to be a left hand or wrist issue. All of those have resulted in Pirates victories, though Liriano himself has only gotten credit for two of the wins.
Fister allowed four runs and nine hits in five innings.
Bryce Harper is 2 for 3 with a home run against him, and 10 for his last 29 off lefties with three doubles and three homers.
Pirates: Jeff Locke (5-6, 4.01 ERA) has a 2.53 ERA in two starts against Washington, both non-decisions.
This is the first time he’s been two games under.
The Nationals are hitless with nine strikeouts against Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano through four innings.

Liriano (neck) has been confirmed as Thursday’s starter against the Nationals. The Nationals are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.
